Answer:
Explanation:
Cardiac Muscle
- Cardiac muscle is exclusively present in the heart.they are involuntary in their activity.
Structure
- cardiac muscles are composed of branched fibres, the branches join to form a network.
- each fibre or cell is surrounded by sarcolemma and has cytoplasm (sarcoplasm) with longitudinal myofibrils and a centrally located nucleus (each cell is uninucleate)
- the myofibrils have transverse faint dark and light bands, which alternate with each other.
- these muscles fibres shows densely stained cross-bands called intercalated discs at intervals.
- the intercalated discs functions as boosters of the contraction wave and permits the wave of muscle contraction to be transmitted from one cardiac fibre to another. so all fibres contract as a unit.
Location
- cardiac muscles occur in the walls of the heart.
Function
- cardiac muscles contract and relax rapidly, rhythmically throughout life.
- they never get fatigued.
- the contraction and relaxation of heart muscles help to pump and distribute blood to various parts of the body.
