THE PART OF THE PENINSULAR PLATEAU LYING TO THE NORTH OF THE NARMADA RIVER COVERING A MAJOR AREA OF THE MALWA PLATEAU IS KNOWN AS THE CENTRAL HIGHLANDS.THE VINDHYAN RANGE IS BOUNDED BY THE CENTRAL HIGHLANDS ON THE SOUTH AND THE ARAVALIS ON THE NORTHEAST.THE FURTHER WESTWARD EXTENSION GRADUALLY MERGES WITH THE SANDY AND ROCKY DESERT OF RAJASTHAN .THE FLOW OFTHRE RIVERS DRAINING NAMELY THE CHAMBAL , SINDH , BETWA AND KEN IS FROM SOUTHWEST TO NORTHEAST.THEY ARE WIDER IN THE WEST AND NARROWER IN THE EAST.THE EASTWARD EXTENSION OF THIS PLATEAU IS CALLED BUNDELKHANDAND BAGHELKHAND.THE CHOTANAGPUR PLATEAU MARKS THE FURTHER EASTWARD EXTENSION DRAINED BY THE DAMODAR RIVER.

Central Highlands :
The part of Peninsular plateau lying to the north of the Narmada river covering with a measure area of Malwa plateau is known as the central Highlands.
The Vindhyan range is bounded by the central Highlands on the south and the Aravali on the Northwest.
The flow of rivers draining this reason namely the Chambal ,Sindh ,the Betwa and the Kane is from Southwest to North West this indicating the slopes.
The Central Highlands are wider in the West but narrower in the East.
The eastward extensions of this plateau are locally known as Bundelkhand and baghelkhand
