Amrita Devi Bishnoi was awarded a Wildlife Protection National award from the State Government of Rajasthan and Madhya Pradesh due to her contribution towards a movement started in 1730 AD to protect green trees.
She was born and brought up in Bishnoi village, Rajasthan where the ruler of Marwar wanted to construct his new palace by burning and cutting the trees.
Amrita Devi Protested against King's men by hugging a tree and they sever her head for doing this. This movement was also called Chipko movement.
