Prairies are practically treeless. Based on availability of water, the plants found in the area, differ. Trees such as willows, alders, and poplars grow in areas where you get water.

The climate of the prairies is of continental type with extreme summers and winters.

the main grazing animals are bison and pronghorn. You'll also find prairie dogs, pocket gophers, wolves, coyotes, swift foxes, badgers and black-footed ferrets. Owls, sparrows, grouses, meadowlarks, hawks and quails are among the prairie biome bird species.
