Coke is grey- coloured, hard textured, and porous fuel. Coke contains high carbon content. It is obtained by  destructive distillation process. It is generally either made by heating coal or oil in the absence of air.

Coke is an important industrial product. It finds an eminent place in iron ore smelting. It is a household fuel also used in stoves and forges though air pollution is a major concern.
