Cambridge English Dictionary defines 'compounds' or 'compound words' as 'a word that combines two or more different words. Often, the meaning of the compound cannot be discovered by knowing the meaning of the different words that form it. Compounds may be written either as one word or as separate words.'
Some examples of compound words in English are as follows :
1. Snowball
2. Teaspoon
3. Greenhouse
4. Single-mindedness
5. Fifty-five
