Answer:

Marine invertebrates which fall under the classification Anthozoa of Phylum Cnidaria , are known as Corals.

Coral reefs are underwater ecosystems, held together by calcium carbonate structures and host various marine life forms like molluscs, sea worms, echinoderms, sponges etc. Corals discharge carbonate exoskeletons which are hard and protect the coral polyps. Most coral reefs thrive in warm, shallow, agitated waters with lot of sunshine.

Corals form only 0.1% of the earth's ocean surface but are home to 25% of all marine species.
