It is triangular in shape, and covers a large part of southern India. The land here is rocky and uneven. The narmada valley divides the Deccan plateau. At the large area of Satpura mountain. It is bound by western and eastern ghats. It covers parts of Madhya pradesh, Chhattisgarh, Odisha, Mahrashtra, Karnataka, Telangiectasia, Anthracite pradesh and Tamil Nadu. There are number of river in the area. The Narmada, Tapi, Flow from east to west. The Mahanadi, Godavari, Krishna and Kaveri flow from west to east. This is because most of land in the Deccan plateau slopes from west to east.

The black soil area of the peninsular plateau is known as the Deccan trap.

This is of volcanic origin, hence the rocks are of igneous nature. Over period of time, these rocks are broken down to form black soils.

It covers parts of Maharashtra, Madhya Pradesh and Gujarat.
