The drafting committee was established to prepare a drafting constitution. Dr. B R Ambedkar set up drafting committee on 29 August 1947. The constituent assembly took 2 years, 11 months and 17 days to frame the constitution. It spent 6.4 crore Rupees in the preparation. There were 22 parts, 395 articles and 8 schedules. Some provisions relating to Citizenship, Elections, and provisional parliament, temporary & transitional provisions were given immediate effect on 26th November 1949.Rest of the constitution came into force on 26 January 1950.
Drafting Committee:
A draft of Constitution was prepared for discussion by the' Drafting Committee. The leading and maintenance of this committee was done by Dr. B.R. Ambedkar.
There have been several rounds of in-depth discussion on the Constitution draft, clause by clause.
The drafting committee which very first penned down the structure of the constitution. This was then circulated for the comments of lawyers, judges, and other public men. The members spread for 114 days over three years. Later, to get their opinion, it was thrown at the public.
