Answer:

Explanation:

The term Ecosystem was proposed by A.G. Tansley in 1935. He defined the Ecosystem as,“ the system resulting from the integration of all the living and non living factors of the environment”.

In most easy terms the term ecosystem is preferred, where “eco “means environment and “system” means interacting and inter dependent complex. Thus any unit that includes all the organisms, interacting with their physical environment where the flow of energy occurs within the system, is called an Ecosystem.

The vast ecosystem that is biosphere is, however, difficult to handle and thus for convenience we generally study nature by making its artificial subdivisions into units of smaller ecosystems like forest ecosystem, desert ecosystem, grassland ecosystem, pond ecosystem, lake ecosystem, etc.

An ecosystem may thus be as small as a pond, a cropland, or as large as an ocean, desert or forest. It must be remembered that these unit ecosystems are simply separated from each other with time and space, but functionally they all are indeed linked with each other forming as an integrated whole. There exists practically no functionally boundaries between them.

Ecosystem is a basic, functional unit with no limits of boundaries, consisting of both biotic and abiotic components interacting with each other, both necessary for maintenance of life upon each other. It represents the highest level of ecological intergration which is energy based and this functional unit is capable of energy transformation, accumulation and circulation.

Explanation:

The ecosystem is a community of organisms and their physical environment interacting with each other as an ecological unit, involving the flow of energy. An ecosystem consists of biotic components including living organisms and abiotic components, the physical factors like temperature, rainfall, wind, soil and minerals. An ecosystem can be natural or artificial. Organisms in the ecosystem can be categorised into producers, consumers and decomposers. Food chains describe the feeding relationship between the organisms of an ecosystem. *Producers are the organisms that produce their own food without the help of any other organism. *Consumers are the organisms which cannot produce food but depend on producers for the same. *Decomposers are the organisms which feed on dead and decaying matter. There occurs energy flow in an ecosystem depending on the 10 percent law of energy. Nutrients move through different components of the ecosystem through biogeochemical cycles.
