The Gaddis was a tribe of Himachal Pradesh. They followed the occupation of the shepherd. The women of this tribe are very hardworking; their work includes that of grass cutting and to carry them to the distant areas. These people have their own traditional dance.

These people had to suffer more because of various forest policies implemented by the Colonial administration. To take control of deforestation in India the colonial administration promoted commercial crops such as sugar, cotton, jute, and indigo, which served the need for raw material in England, and banned shifting cultivation and grazing of animals. Therefore, these people had to migrate from their original homeland to the other parts of the country.

Attempts were made after independence to protect the culture and customs of the tribe by restoring their pasture land and abolishing the grazing taxes. Therefore, the government has initiated various schemes for the welfare of the community.
