The Ganges and Brahmaputra rivers, together with their tributaries, drain about one-third of India. The Ganges (Ganga), considered sacred by the country's Hindu population, is 1,560 miles (2,510 km) long.

→ Headwater of river Ganga is called 'Bhagirathi' it is fed by the Gangotri Glacier.

→The Ganga is joined by many tributaries from Himalayas.
