- Masulipatnam, located in AndhraPradesh, is a port city on the Coromandel Coast. It was founded by the Arabs in the 14th century AD in search of their way from Red Sea to Southern India. It developed as a major trading centre in 17th century AD. Its most important industries were the weaving and dyeing industries. Dyed cotton cloth produced in Masulipatnam called chintz was very popular in Europe. The speciality of Masulipatnam was the Kalamkari cloth. There was aspecial technique of designing in which designs in coloured dye were painted onto the cloth using a Kalam or pen. Kalamkari cloth was very much in demand in West Asia and Europe.

- One of western India's major trading towns and ports was Surat. This city flourished on the bank of the river Tapti. It was the major gateway for trade with West Asia. Surat was a cosmopolitan City and merchants from different parts of the country Multani, Kashmiri Bohra-Muslim and Bania lived here in the 17th century, the British Dutch and the French established their trading factory in Surat. It was a major centre of export of textiles, indigo and sugar. It was the point of departure for the muslim pilgrims to Mecca. It was the terminus of an overland route between Agra and Delhi Surat provided a platform for the connections with Arabian Sea and markets from East and West. Other places found in Surat at this time were custom houses, the mint and bazaars. The trade in Surat faced losses after the attack of Marathas in 1723 AD.
