The Indian Rebellion of 1857 had diverse political, economic, military, religious and social causes. ... The spark that led to a mutiny in several sepoy companies was the issue of new gunpowder cartridges for the Enfield rifle in February, 1857. A rumour was spread that the cartridges were made from cow and pig fat.

The great uprising cause of 1857 was that some Indian people who were part of the british army denied to open the kartus which was made of leather of cow.

Due to this some Indian men were strangled by British personal.

There were also a lot of policies of Britishers which were totally against the Indians.

For example Britishers used to capture the land without the permission of the owner of the land. There was much discrimination between Indian people and Britishers.

So that indian people had become much harassed both mentally and physically.

So they decided to take revenge to the Britishers by their own way but they couldn’t take revenge because it was not possible to take revenge.

Britishers had large amount of gun and kartus but Indians had nothing accept weapon which was made of only iron.
