• The infamous Jallianwala Bagh Massacre took place on 13th April.

• On that day a crowd of villagers who had  come to Amritsar to attend the fair gathered in an enclosed ground of Jallianwala Bagh,

• Because they were from outside the city they were unaware of the martial law that had been imposed.

• General Dyer entered the area and blocked the exit points and open fired at the crowd and killed hundreds.

• He declared his objective later as to produce a "Moral Effect among the Satyagrahis a feeling of terror and awe".
