Lord Dalhousie who became the Governor General of India belonged to an aristocratic family of Scotland. He was an excellent person who knew where to use power and peace. He made a number of reforms in India due to which he was given the title of  “Maker of Modern India”. However, he is most commonly remembered for his policy of annexation (Doctrine of Lapse)  through which he annexed many of the Indian territories. He introduced a unique system of internal communication in India including Railways, Telegraph, the establishment of the Postal Department.
