The Maasai are a Nilotic ethnic group inhabiting southern Kenya and northern Tanzania. They are among the best known local populations due to their residence near the many game parks of the African Great Lakes, and their distinctive customs and dress.The Maasai speak the Maa language, a member of the Nilo-Saharan family that is related to Dinka and Nuer languager. They are also educated in the official languages of Kenya and Tanzania, Swahiliand English. The Maasai population has been reported as numbering 841,622 in Kenya in the 2009 census, compared to 377,089 in the 1989 census.

The Maasai are a native African ethnic community of a semi-nomadic people who resided in Kenya and Northern Tanzania. The society of the Maasai people is based on the patriarchal pattern, where all the decision making power relies on the hand of the elder man of the family. Cattle play a significant role in the life of the Maasai people, such as it is the primary food source for them and the wealth of person here is calculated in the Cattle. Maa is the language spoken by these people and some of them are also aware of the English and Swahili language as these are the official language of Tanzania and Kenya.
