The India Meteorological Department (IMD) is an agency of the Ministry of Earth Sciences of the Government of India. It is the principal agency responsible for meteorological observations, weather forecasting and seismology.

In the year 1875, the Government of India established the India Meteorological Department, bringing all meteorological work in the country under a central authority.

Tech or M.Sc in Electronics. Selected students have to go through 1-year advanced course in Meteorology at IMD campuses in Pune or New Delhi. Science graduates may also get picked up by IMD through employment exchanges from time to time.
