modifications of parenchyma -
1. prosenchyma -cells are thick walled, elongated with pointed ends. function --provides mechanical strength.
2. arenchyma --modified parenchyma having air spaces. Present in hydrophytes in cortex and provide buoyancy.
3.mucilage parenchyma --large vacuoles are present. Stores mucilage (water). Present in succulent xerophytes e. g.aloe,opuntia etc .
4. Stellate parenchyma --Star shaped parenchyma. Present at leaf bases of banana. Provides mechanical strength.
5. chlorenchyma --parenchyma contains large amount of chloroplast.
