Short note on Nagodas

• The Nagodas were known to be sericulturists( manufacturers of silk) belonging to the state of Bengal in India.
• They were quite good at their work and people all over the world came to buy their goods.
• When the East India Company of the British enjoyed their monopoly capturing India, they tortured many people including the Nagodas.
• The Nagodas were forced to weave for the British company, however, received lower wages in return. They were treated like slaves and worked for survival.
• A turning point came when they protested against the policies of the British and their company by cutting off their thumb and denying to work for them further.
