The National Human Rights Commission (NHRC) of India is a Statutory public body constituted on 12 October 1993 under the Protection of Human Rights Ordinance of 28 September 1993.[1] It was given a statutory basis by the Protection of Human Rights Act, 1993 (PHRA).[2] The NHRC is the National Human Rights Commission of India,[3] responsible for the protection and promotion of human rights, defined by the Act as "Rights Relating To Life, liberty, equality and dignity of the individual guaranteed by the Constitution or embodied in the International Covenants and enforceable by courts in India.".

National Human Rights Commission - NHRC
- NHRC is a independent statutory body in India, which was set up as a result of the Paris Principles, (themed around protecting human rights in the country) by the United Nations General Assembly.It was set up in the year 1993 to protect the civilian rights, dignity, equality as promulgated by the Indian Constitution.
- In-order to protect its citizens, NHRC plays a vital role in maintaining human rights irrespective of caste, creed, colour and sex and addresses the grievances in a time bound manner. Powers of the civil court are imbibed in NHRC. It is organised by a Chairman, who heads the committee and Seven other members who will be responsible for the protection of human rights across the country.
- NHRC plays a vital role in the promotion of civilian rights, by educating and creating awareness among different forums such as media, newspapers and seminars. Even the judicial proceedings can be interfered in case if it found to be violating the human rights.
