Explanation:
Our atmosphere consists of 78% nitrogen gas.
Nitrogen is one of the essential constituents of all
living organisms as a part of proteins, chlorophyll,
nucleic acids and vitamins. The atmospheric
nitrogen cannot be taken directly by plants and
animals. The nitrogen-fixing bacteria and algae
present in the soil fix nitrogen from the atmosphere
and convert into nitrite and nitrate forms. Once
nitrogen is converted into these usable forms, it can
be utilised by plants through their root system. This
is the process of 'FIXING' OF NITROGEN.

Answer:
The nitrogen cycle is the biogeochemical cycle by which nitrogen is converted into multiple chemical forms as it circulates among atmosphere, terrestrial, and marine ecosystems. The conversion of nitrogen can be carried out through both biological and physical processes.
