The nucleus is a membrane bound structure that contains the cell's hereditary information and controls the cell's growth and reproduction. It is commonly the most prominent organelle in the cell. The nucleus is surrounded by a structure called the nuclear envelope.

Nucleus is the guiding centre of the cell. Without nucleus, the metabolic activities won't occur and the cell would not be able to carry out the vital processes.

Nucleus also helps in cell division as it contains chromatin. The chromatin contains genes which define the new cell to be formed.
