write a short note on ozone layer depletion
Answers
It protects us from the harmful ultraviolet radiations of earth
It is formed when sunlight passes from oxygen molecule then they split into two atoms of oxygen then later oxygen atom combine with oxygen molecule to form ozone
But, this protective layer is continually depleting by harmful pollutants like CFC etc.
This is very dangerous for us and it creates many problems like skin cancer etc.
so we shouldn't use that materials which releases harmful gases like CFC
otherwise, it destroy our ecosystem
Answer:
The thickening of the ozone layer in the upper atmosphere is known as ozone layer depletion. This occurs when ozone molecules come into touch with atmospheric chlorine and bromine atoms, which break them down. 100 000 ozone molecules may be wiped off by one chlorine molecule. Faster than it can be generated, it can also be destroyed.
When some substances are exposed to intense UV radiation, they emit chlorine and bromine, which then helps to deplete the ozone layer. Ozone Depleting Substances are the name for such substances (ODS).
Chlorofluorocarbons, carbon tetrachloride, hydrochlorofluorocarbons, and methyl chloroform are among the chlorine-containing ozone-depleting chemicals. Halons, methyl bromide and hydro bromofluorocarbons are examples of bromine-containing materials that deplete the ozone layer.
The chemical that depletes the ozone layer most frequently is chlorofluorocarbons. Only when the chlorine atom interacts with another molecule does it not also interact with ozone.
The Montreal Protocol was developed in 1987 to halt the use, manufacturing, and import of ozone-depleting compounds as well as to reduce their atmospheric concentration in order to save the earth's ozone layer.
