Erwin Schrodinger proposed the quantum mechanical model of the atom, which treats electrons as matter waves .The square of the wave function ,Φ² represents the probability of finding an electron in given region within the atom.
- The probability of finding an electron within a certain volume of space surrounding the nucleus can be represented as fuzzy cloud.
- The cloud is more dense where the probability of finding electron is high.
