Quit India Resolution was drafted by Jawaharlal Nehru and it was moved by him on 8th August 1942 and Sardar Patel seconded it. The Quit India Movement (Bharat Chhodo Andolan or the August Movement) was a civil disobedience in response to Gandhi's call for immediate independence.

On 8th Aug, 1942, Mahatma Gandhi launch the Quit India Movement. It was the biggest civil disobedience movement for Independence. The Quit India speech by Mahatma Gandhi on 8 August 1942, on the eve of the Quit India movement. The movement was started as a mass protest to call for the peaceful British withdrawal from the country.

The British refused to grant immediate independence. Quit India failed. The next day, 9th August, 1942, Gandhi, Nehru and many other leaders of the Indian National Congress were arrested by the British Government. The Quit India campaign was effectively crushed. But the seed for Independence was sown.
