Rajputs are famed for their fighting abilities and once ruled numerous Indian princely states. The British grouped many of these states into the Rajputana Province. Today, it is the Indian state of Rajasthan.

Though Rajput women were the honour of the Rajputs, they lived in a society that was unauthentic and handicapped. The low-class Rajput women were not allowed to read the sacred Vedas. The laws meant for women were very stingy. Rajput women were supposed to follow more eminent ideals in terms of their men and community. They were supposed to sacrifice their lives after the death of their husbands as a result Rajput women performed Johar. There was no "Purdah system" in the Rajput society and Swayamvar types of marriages were in vogue. However, the practices of  Infanticide and early marriage can be observed in the Rajput society.
