Rani Durgavati was a brave ruling queen of Gondwana empire(kingdom) who was born on 5 October, 1524 A.D. in the family of Chandel Rajput king Keerat Rai at the fort of Mahoba (Uttar Pradesh). She ruled from 1550 until 1564. In 1542, she was married to Dalpat Shah, the adopted son of the king Sangram Shah of the Garha Kingdom. Her successor was Veer Narayan.
After the death of Shershah, Sujat Khan captured the Malwa zone and was succeeded by his son Bajbahadur in 1556 A.D. (Bajbahadur is famous in history for his tumultus love affair with Rani Roopmati). After ascending to the throne, he attacked Rani Durgavati but the attack was repulsed with heavy losses to his army. This defeat effectively silenced Bajbahadur and the victory brought name and fame for Rani Durgavati.
She died on 24 June, 1564 due to heavy injury of her ear and neck in the battlefield during the heavy battle with Mughals.
