Silk worms produce silk  which are combined to make a silk thread. The silk is obtained from the cocoon that it forms while maturing inside it . Thus the silkworm is not allowed to grow as  silk cannot be obtained as the worm completely grows adult it brakes the cocoon.
thus while obtaining silk the cocoon along with silk worm is boiled in water
