The period from 1793-94 was reffered to as reign of terror. Because Robespierre followed a policy of severe control and punishment.All those whom he saw as enemies-ex nobles and clergy,members of some political party even the members of his own party who did not agree with his policies were punished,imprisoned and tried by a revolutionary tribunal. If they were found guilty they were guillatined.
