A democratic government in a country is overthrown and replaced by a dictator or authoritarian regime. After sometime, the same authoritarian regime is overthrown and again democracy is established in the country. The process is called "Restoration of Democracy."

We see the example of Chile. In 1973, the democratic government of Chile was overthrown and authoritarian regime was established. The people fought for democratic values and in 1990, through a referendum the authoritarian regime was overthrown and again the democracy was established. So democracy was restored in Chile after 17 years.
