Passed by Parliament on 15 June 2005 and came fully into the process on 12 October 2005, the RTI is an act that supersedes the former Freedom of information Act, 2002. This act provides for setting out the working government of the right to information for citizens. Through the implementation of this act, any resident of India may ask information from a "government administration" (a body of Government or "agency of State") which is expected to respond within thirty days. All the states of India come under the provision of this act except of Jammu and Kashmir (where the J&K RTI Act is in force).
