The period between 1206 A.D. and 1526 A.D. in India's history is known as the Delhi Sultanate period. During this period of over three hundred years, five dynasties ruled in Delhi.

Our sources for this period include : Edicts ,temples and land grants, commentaries on the Dharmashastras , coins , latter Puranas such as the Bhavishya Puranas. the records left by the Muslim historians who accomapnied the likes of Mahmud of Ghazni such as his secretary al-Utbi's memoirs.

The main sources of Delhi Sultanate are inscriptions. They are found on old coins, historical monuments, milestones, and tombstones. Monuments are also an important source of information about the Delhi Sultanate.

Examples of primary sources are as follows: Artefacts, documents, diary, autobiography, etc. The literary works of the medieval periods which include the Delhi Sultanate and the Mughal Empire. Archaeological remains of Delhi Sultanate and Mughal Empire.
