was an English theoretical physicist, cosmologist, and author who was director of research. He had worked on the physics of black holes. He proposed that black holes would emit subatomic particles until they eventually exploded. He also wrote best-selling books, the most famous of which was A Brief History From the Big Bang to Black Holes (1988).

is an Indian film and television actress and an accomplished Bharatanatyam dancer. In 1981, she hurt her leg in a road accident near Tiruchirapalli, Tamil Nadu while coming back from Madras with her parents. Her leg became gangrenous and her parents opted to have it amputated.
