Stomata are most important parts on the leaves of plants. They can be either present on the both side (or) just on one side. When they are present on one side they are called amphistomatic, if on the upper side then epistomatic and if on lower side then hypostomatic. The most important role of stomata is exchange of gases for process of Photosynthesis.

In diagram stomata present in upper epidermis are epistomatic and stomata present in lower epidermis are hypostomatic.
