The Swadeshi movement started with the partition of Bengal in 1905 and continued up to 1911. Boycott was one of the tactics used in the Swadeshi movement. It involved the boycott of British products like cotton textile manufactured in Britain. Instead, leaders of the movement advocated the use of Indian products.

Swadeshi Movement :

The movement, begun in 1906 by Indian nationals opposed to the Partition of Bengal, was one of the most successful movements against British rule. Swadeshi was a focus of Mahatma Gandhi, who described it as the soul of swaraj (self-rule). This divide-and-conquer strategy sparked the Swadeshi movement.

Boy Cott Movement :

Boycott meant refusal to use foreign goods. The Swadeshi movement was in protest of the Government's decision to partition Bengal had been made public in July 1905. It called for boycott of all British goods and buy Indian products only. A four-fold programme of Boycott was advocated.
