The Anglo-Saxon Chronicle is a collection of concise historical records written in Old English. The chronicle describes the history of the Anglo-Saxons in chronological order. The manuscript was first made in the 9th century in Wessex during the rule of Alfred the Great. Until 1954, the Chronicle was being regularly updated.

Today, there are nine manuscripts in part and full of which none of them is the original. Seven manuscripts are preserved in the British Library while the other two can be found in the Bodleian Library and the Parker Library.
