The Central Highlands lies to the north of the Narmada river. It covers the major portion of the Malwa plateau. The rivers in this region flow from south-west to north-east; which indicates the slope of this region. It is wider in the west and narrower in the east. Bundelkhand and Baghelkhand mark the eastward extension of this Plateau. The Plateau further extends eastwards into the Chhotanagpur Plateau

Central Highlands :
The part of Peninsular plateau lying to the north of the Narmada river covering with a measure area of Malwa plateau is known as the central Highlands.
The Vindhyan range is bounded by the central Highlands on the south and the Aravali on the Northwest.
The flow of rivers draining this reason namely the Chambal ,Sindh ,the Betwa and the Kane is from Southwest to North West this indicating the slopes.
The Central Highlands are wider in the West but narrower in the East.
The eastward extensions of this plateau are locally known as Bundelkhand and baghelkhand
