The drafting committee was established to prepare a drafting

constitution. Dr. B R Ambedkar set up drafting committee

on 29 August 1947. The constituent assembly took 2 years, 11 months and

17 days to frame the constitution. It spent 6.4 crore Rupees in the

preparation. There were 22 parts, 395 articles and 8 schedules. Some

provisions relating to Citizenship, Elections, and provisional parliament,

temporary & transitional provisions were given immediate effect on 26th November 1949.Rest

of the constitution came into force on 26 January 1950.

❀ Among all the committee of the constituent assembly the most important committee was the Drafting committee, set up in August 29th 1947.

❀ It was the committee that was entrusted with the task of preparing the draught of the new constitution. It consisted of 7 members.
