Akbar founded his own religion called Din-i-llahi or divine faith. It was based on the teachings and beliefs of all the major religions. It stressed belief in one god. This new belief made Akbar unpopular with orthodox Muslims. Din-i-llahi did not survive long after Akbar's death.

Din-i-Ilahi or Religion of God was a new system of religious started by Mughal emperor Akbar. It was actually a syncretic religion composed of good principles of all religions of the world.

Akbar propounded this new belief system in order to reconcile the difference among his subjects of different beliefs. It emphasized on morality, pity, kindness and tolerance. tolerance was the main feature of Din-i-Illahi.
