• Since the social gap between the rich and the poor was so wide, their fundamental rights often differed greatly. The wealthy had an ostentatious lifestyle and enjoyed a plethora of luxuries.
• Ordinary people, on the other hand, had a wretched existence. They had spent the whole day toiling away for a decent living. Their homes, food, and clothing were all extremely basic.
