• The Medieval period may be divided into two periods: The 'early medieval period' from the 6th to the 13th century and the 'late medieval period' from the 13th to the 16th century, ending with the start of the Mughal Empire in 1526.  Most people in the Middle Ages wore woollen clothing, with undergarments (if any) made of linen. Among the peasantry, wool was generally shorn from the sheep and spun into the thread for the cloth by the women of the family.
