the british fought first world war against Japan.So Japan decided to attack India bcz India was under the british rule.Gandhiji thought that if british would left India then Japan would not attack India.Gandhiji started Quit India Movement on 8th August 1942.He and other leaders were arrested on 9th August 1942.People got angry over this and they started burning government buildings,railway station and police station.But british government was unable to suppress this movement

In August 1942,the congress adopted the quit India resolution to compel the British to leave the country. Gandhiji coined 'Do or Die ' slogan for this movement. He and the other leading figures in the Congress were arrested on 9 August 1942. These arrests led to strong protests across the nation.
