Over the period 1757 -1857 ,the political , social , economic and religious policies followed by the British government in India had caused resentment and discontent among the people in India. Several uprisings erupted in different parts of the country. Most of the uprising were localized and were easily put down by the British. The great Rebellion of 1857 occurred as the result of a buildup of several factors over decades,rather than one single event.
