Charter is a formal document. Queen Elizabeth I of England granted a formal charter to the East India Company. It was actually given to break the Dutch monopoly of the spice trade in what is now Indonesia.

IN, 1600 , the east India company accuried a charter from the ruler of Elizabeth , granting it the sole right to trade with the east this meant that no other trading group in England could complete with the east India company with this charter the company could venture across the ocean, looking for new from which it could buy goods at cheap prices , and carry them back to Europe to sell at higher price
