Answer:

Its physical and chemical properties make it a unique chemical substance. The mineral graphite is steel gray to black in color and is odorless. ... This gives the graphite crystals a hexagonal shape. Different layers of this element are stacked together and held by weak covalent forces to form a giant covalent structure.Graphite has a giant covalent structure consisting of layers of carbon atoms. Carbon atoms have 4 valence electrons that are available for bonding. In graphite, each carbon atom is covalently bonded to 3 other carbon atoms. Therefore, every carbon atom has 1 electron that is not used for bonding.

Graphite :

It occurs naturally in this form and is the most stable form of carbon under standard conditions.

Under high pressures and temperatures it converts to diamond.

Properties :

Density: 2.09–2.23 g/cm3

Optical properties: Uniaxial

Hope it helps ❣️
