#Rajya Sabha#

* Rajya Sabha is referred to as the upper house of the Indian Parliament.

* It is also alternatively referred to as the Council of States and is, therefore, a representative of the States and Union Territories.

* The maximum strength can be 250 out of which 238 members represent the State or Union Territories. The rest of the members are elected by the President.

* After every 2 years, 1/3rd of the members retire who are again eligible for being re-elected.

The structure of Rajya Sabha:

  • Rajya Sabha is the upper house of the Indian Parliament.
  • It comprises of at most 250 members who are chosen by the members who are elected for the legislative assemblies of states and UT. Presently, the sanctioned members are 245 in number.
  • Out of this present strength of members, the President nominates the 12 members and states and UT elects the remaining 233 members.
  • Vice President is the chairman of this house of the Parliament.
