It is a bicameral legislature composed of the President of India and the two houses: the Rajya Sabha (House of States) and the Lok Sabha (House of the People). The President in his role as head of legislature has full powers to summon and prorogue either the House of Parliament or to dissolve the Lok Sabha. Their work is similar: making laws (legislation), checking the work of the government (scrutiny), and debating current issues. The Indian Parliament comprises of President, Lok Sabha and Rajya Sabha. It has two Houses - Rajya Sabha (Council of States) and Lok Sabha (House of the People). The Lok Sabha is composed of representatives of people chosen by direct election on the basis of Universal Adult Suffrage. It is also known as Lower House.
