Timur, historically known as Amir Timur and Tamerlane, was a Turco-Mongol conqueror. As the founder of the Timurid Empire in Persia and Central Asia, he became the first ruler in the Timurid dynasty.

timur was a central Asian Turk who had embraced Islam an set up a kingdom in Samarkand. As Timur marched towards Delhi, he met with little resistance. The sultans army was easily defeated. Timur entered Delhi, and the city was destroyed and left in ruins. Timur also ransacked Meerut and Jammu. The Tughlaq empire never recovered from this blow.
