TISCO, or Tata Iron and Steel Company Limited, now known as Tata Steel, was founded by Jamsetji Nusserwanji Tata on 25th August, 1907. Headquartered in Mumbai, the steel plant was set up in Jamshedpur, in present day Jharkhand. TISCO was the first steel plant set up in India. Today, the Company has a global footprint with the takeover of Corus Group plc, which has operations in the United Kingdom and the Netherlands.
In India, TISCO and the Tatas have been known for their ethical management practices and corporate social responsibility, the latter has been focused most towards the upliftment of the tribal society in and around Jamshedpur.
